Questions:
What sites and/or applications do you visit most often? Describe the sites and applications that you identify.
The websites and applications that I visit the most often are Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, WordPress, Wix, Jira (project management app), Constant Contact (email marketing management), Microsoft Teams (for communicating with my work colleagues), Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and XD), Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint), Gmail, my banking app and website, Robinhood (for stocks), Dropbox, OneDrive, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Amazon, DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber, Lyft, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple Music, and of course Brightspace for school.
These are a mix of all my personal and work apps that I use daily as I am a remote marketing coordinator and graphic designer. In my free time, I use a lot of streaming apps for my TV to watch movies and TV series since I do not own cable. Apple Music is also something I use daily for listening to music and podcasts on my computer while I am working and browsing the Internet.
For communications, I use WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger the most to keep in touch with my friends and family from around the world. Great apps I use for video chatting, sending photos, videos, and voice notes. News is also something that I get solely from social media and news apps since it's so convenient to use without cable TV.Do you have positive or negative reactions when using certain types of digital media?
I have a positive reaction to using digital media because of the accessibility, affordability, and ease of use which was not possible years ago. Calling my family on a phone card who are from the Philippines is no longer limited to a $10 phone card. I can see them and interact with them from video chat and instantly see the photos that they share on Facebook. I am able to connect and reconnect with friends, colleagues, and new friends through networking apps such as Eventbrite and Meetup if there is an event that interests me.
Of course, there are terrible things about social media but I try my best to keep everything as positive and fun as possible. Everything on social media can be negative if I chose to look at those things that can cause my mental health harm, anxiety, and stress. Keeping informed about current events that are happening all over the world is also possible, thanks to the power of digital media. Sometimes it does give me a negative reaction when reading the news, so I make sure to take breaks from it for my own sanity.
Do you find that your needs are satisfied using one type of digital media over another?
No, I feel that my needs are not satisfied using one type of digital media, as I use multiple. For example, I love using Instagram more when I am freelancing and collaborating with creatives. It is a great tool, almost like a digital "business card" and portfolio that you can instantly show people. Facebook has also evolved so much over the years, so the ability to create a business page also helps a lot when networking with people by getting your business products and/or services to the public.
Do you receive emails from companies? If so, what types of email catch your attention? What do you look for?
Yes, I do receive emails from companies. There are some fashion, stocks, tech, entrepreneur, airline, and travel companies that I follow to keep up to date for important news and deals. I mostly look for discounts, deals, new job opportunities, and new releases.
The emails that catch my attention are straight-to-the-point headlines. They say the important and main point of why they are sending an email. Short and sweet is best for me. I look for clarity and a way to contact the company or person if I have any more questions.
What do you notice about the use of digital media in marketing today? Explain.
What I notice about the use of digital marketing today is that ads are everywhere! I dislike ads so I usually use an ad blocker using Google Chrome. I also notice that every single app became a marketplace even when they didn't have ads before. You can literally buy any product or service online on any website because there are so many advertisers on every platform. Most apps are also no longer free and provide no ads if you pay for a subscription, as it is the ads that companies pay for that allow it to still have a free version for users.
